Beckford leaps to 8.16m win

Olympic Games silver medallist, James Beckford, was in top form at the Meeting Atletismo Huelva, an IAAF World Athletics Tour Qualifier held in Spain on June 20.

Beckford, the national record holder, leapt 8.16 metres to win the men's long jump.

Beckford's jump, the 25th longest of the season, was good enough to beat Great Britain's Nathan Morgan ( 7.93m), and Cuban pair of Ibrahim Camejo ( 7.87) and Ivan Pedroso (7.79).

Meanwhile, former national champion Brandon Simpson, running under United States of America flag, won the men's 400m in 45.04 seconds.

Simpson, who switched allegiance last year, defeated Australian Clinton Hill (45.24) and Carlos Santa of Dominican Republic ( 45.57).

National record holder Germaine Mason, who switched to Great Britain, also late year, was fifth in the men's high jump.

Mason leapt 2.19 metres to finish behind Cuban pair of Victor Moya and Lisvany Perez, and Sergey Klyugin of Russia, all clearing 2.25 metres.
